Director Rupert Wyatt made a great impact out in Hollywood with his acclaimed prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes and now turns his talent to more sedate territory.
Also linked to an old film, The Gambler is based on a Karel Reisz film from 1974 and the premise remains the same – that of a professor with a gambling habit which spirals out of control and into dangerous territory.
Wahlberg is supported by Brie Larson and Jessica Lange with John Goodman and Richard Schiff also appearing. That’s a good cast, and if Apes showed us anything it is that Wyatt knows his way around a decent script.
