On the Road US PosterSet for release in the height of the awards season next month in New York and LA, the long-awaited On the Road is finally on the horizon in the US, having been released across much of Europe over the past few months.

We saw the film’s final US poster last month, and with its limited release just over a month away, Apple have debuted the second, and likely final, US trailer, giving another terrific look at what promises to be a big success, and quite possibly a strong contender.

“After the death of his father, Sal Paradise, an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty, a wild and infectiously charismatic ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined to avoid the pitfalls of a narrow, prescribed life, Sal hits the road, joining Dean on what evolves into a life-changing physical and emotional odyssey. Thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, the ecstasy of experience, the connectedness of humanity and ultimately themselves.”

The film features an all-star cast, headed up by Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart as the leading trio, alongside Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Alice Braga, Elisabeth Moss, and Viggo Mortensen.

Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) is behind the camera for the long-in-development film, reuniting with the Oscar-nominated Jose Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries), who has penned the script, adapting the seminal original novel by Jack Kerouac.

With the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 today – you can read our review here – all eyes will soon be turning to its leading stars to see where their careers take them, and On the Road looks like a very good start for Stewart to kick off her post-Twilight career.

On the Road will be given a limited US release in NY and LA on 21st December, in the prime of the awards season, before going wide across the country in January 2013. Here’s the latest trailer to give you a taste of what we have to look forward to. Enjoy.
