Acclaimed director José Padilha (Elite Squad) is rebooting the RoboCop franchise, with MGM and StudioCanal set to have a potentially very successful blockbuster on their hands in early 2014.

Originally set for release next summer, the film has since been pushed back to February 2014, and after catching a great new teaser poster back in September, alongside the first photos from the set, a new promo featurette/sizzle reel has debuted online, giving us a great look at some promising concept art.

“In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology.  Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.  Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit.  After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life.  He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.”

Joel Kinnaman takes the lead as Alex Murphy / RoboCop, himself, and is joined by a terrific supporting cast, headed up by Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

Padilha is at the helm, directing from a script by Joshua Zetumer, Nick Schenk (Gran Torino), and James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man).

RoboCop is now set for release in the UK and US on 7th February, 2014, and it’s looking more and more likely that it’s going to be a big success when it hits. For now, here’s the new featurette, giving us our look at some pretty cool concept art.

The Studio requested we took down the content. We had twenty seconds to comply and so we did.
