We’ve known for a while now that Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is working to bring New Mutants to the big screen, but despite casting rumours pointing to Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) playing Magic and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) taking on the role of Wolfsbane, nothing concrete about the anticipated X-Men spinoff has been revealed for some time.

Well, that’s all changed with the release of an amazing storyboard animatic for a sequence in New Mutants which pits the heroes against fan-favourite comic book villain Demon Bear!

Everything You Need To Know About the X-Men Spinoff Movie – New Mutants

First appearing in New Mutants #3, the Demon Bear draws his power from negative human emotion and is capable of both corrupting souls and teleportation. The video below makes it clear just what a formidable threat he is to these characters, and the fact that he looks set to be the big bad of this movie is both very exciting and music to the ears of comic book fans.

A new report also reveals that the plan is for New Mutants to be a “Stephen King meets John Hughes” style horror movie which is closer to Stranger Things than previous X-Men movies.

The plan apparently is to release it in Spring 2018 (which makes sense given some recent release date news), while The Fault in Our Stars’ Nat Wolff is being eyed for the role of Cannonball, a character you can actually see shooting into action in this new animatic!

UPDATE: Josh Boone reached out to let us know these storyboards are by Ashley Guillory!
