Renowned for his work directing Up and Monsters, Inc., Pete Docter returns this summer with Pixar’s anticipated animated blockbuster, Inside Out.

Until fairly recently, the film was almost completely shrouded in mystery. All we knew was that it would take us inside the mind of a young girl. Slowly but surely, the first trailers started to reveal a bigger picture. And now Disney and Pixar have launched a new look at what’s to come at the Puppy Bowl, the animal-friendly equivalent of the big game.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Kaitlyn Dias leads the voice cast as Riley, joined by Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, and Phyllis Smith as Riley’s emotions, Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan as Riley’s parents, and John Ratzenberger naturally expected to voice someone as well.

Docter devised the original story himself, and it’s thought that Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) has penned the script, though final credit hasn’t yet been announced.

Inside Out hits cinemas in 3D on 19th June in the US and 10th July in the UK.
