Ahead of its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, a new image has been released from Mr. Holmes featuring X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies star Ian McKellan as the elderly Sherlock Holmes. Alongside the legendary British actor is his young co-star Milo Parker (Robot Overlords).

As you can see from the image below, it doesn’t reveal an awful lot about the movie, but is at least a nice indication of what we should expect from this take on the iconic detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Originally titled A Slight Trick of the Mind, Mr. Holmes is set in 1947 and sees McKellan play a 93 year old version of the detective (making it very different to the Sherlocks played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. in recent years). He’s now retired and living with his housekeeper and her sleuthing son.

However, Holmes is still haunted by an old cold case from 50 years ago, and sets out to solve it once and for all (minus his faithful John Watson). The movie is directed by Gods and Monsters helmer Bill Condon.
