Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium is by far one of the most anticipated blockbusters of next year, having made such an awesome debut with District 9 back in 2009.
We got an awesome first look at Matt Damon in the summer, after the film’s viral site was launched at Comic-Con last year, and now Sony have released another great image of Damon wielding that brilliant weaponry.
“In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy “Coordinators,” people who can afford bio-genetical engineering, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, built by the Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government of?cial, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky ex-con Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”
Blomkamp is once more directing from his own script, with Damon starring alongside Sharlto Copley (reteaming who the writer-director after District 9), William Fichtner, Jodie Foster, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and Faran Tahir.
Elysium was originally set for release in March, but has since been pushed back to summer to take advantage of RoboCop being delayed to 2014, now giving Blomkamp’s film a prime position amongst the summer blockbuster heavyweights. Instead, Elysium will be hitting hard on 9th August in the US, followed by a 20th September release here in the UK. This is going to be immense.
