The Impossible is an astounding and powerful true story that promises to be a very strong contender this awards season.
The film has stormed the Spanish box office in recent weeks, and will soon be released in prime Oscar contention just before Christmas in the US. It premiered at TIFF back in September – you can read our five-star review here – and has been garnering wide critical acclaim ever since.
We saw a new featurette for the film last month, focusing on the true story upon which it is based, and now Yahoo Movies have debuted another moving featurette, taking us once more behind the scenes for one of the year’s strongest entries.
“Maria (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor give remarkable performances in the leads, starring alongside Tom Holland, Samuel Joslin, and Oaklee Pendergast.
Acclaimed Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphange) makes a fine English language debut behind the camera, reteaming with Sergio G. Sánchez (The Orphanage), who penned the script.
The Impossible will be released in the US on 21st December, giving it a strong position for the Oscars and much more in the coming weeks. It will then open in the UK on 1st January, 2013, making for a strong and powerful start to the year.
