With the Star Wars Anthology movie which was set to be directed by Josh Trank now pushed back to 2020, a Han Solo centric spinoff will be released in 2018 from the directing duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie). Lawrence Kasdan meanwhile will be writing.

That’s one heck of a team as we’re sure you’ll agree, but what exactly should we expect from the movie which is set to explore the years years of the Millennium Falcon’s pilot?

While plot details are still being kept a closely guarded secret, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy promises that there’s a good reason for this movie to be happening. “There’s got to be a reason for [the stand-alone film] to be,” she says. “And obviously the thing that Star Wars has always done so well is it doesn’t spend a lot of time [explaining] the stories that have come before. We don’t want to do that either. We don’t want to spend time going back and answering a lot of questions that, quite frankly, I don’t think people want answered.”

“I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love,” Kennedy said when asked about the process of choosing a period in the character’s life which makes sense to explore in this movie. “You can imagine, given who we’ve chosen to come in and direct, it should be very entertaining and funny. Han Solo is the character inside Star Wars that everybody knows has a wit and sense of humor. So that’s what this should be.”

Now, those of you worrying about this Star Wars Anthology movie focusing on a child or teenage version of Han Solo can put your concerns to one side, as Kennedy confirmed what his age will be when we’re reintroduced to him a couple of years from now. “He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s. We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.”
