Lucy

This August will see the release of Lucy, the latest film from The Fifth Element director Luc Besson. In the movie, Scarlett Johansson (who most recently starred in Under the Skin and Captain America: The Winter Soldier) plays a young woman granted extraordinary abilities after being forced into becoming a drug mule.

It’s those narcotics which turn Lucy into an incredible fighter capable of clairvoyance, telekinesis, along with an ability to disregard pain and emotion when any of the designer drugs enters her system.

Besson is of course also responsible for classics like Leon and District 13, and the not so classic Taken and The Transporter. That potentially means that Lucy could go either way, but it has a stellar cast and an intriguing concept which could help differentiate it as the summer season wraps up at the cinema.

From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.

Starring Scarlett Johannson, Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton, Luc Besson’s Lucy is set to be released on July 25th, 2014 in the US and on August 22nd here in the UK.
