Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda video game series is one of the most popular of all-time, something which makes it all the more surprising when you consider the fact that it hasn’t received a live-action adaptation.

It’s not alone of course. There are plenty of video games out there suited for both the small and big screens, but the likes of Resident Evil and Doom have resulted in a decrease in interest in the properties from studios.

However, Netflix are now said to be in the early stages of developing a live-action series based on Zelda, and like the video games, it will follow “an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule”. The tone? Game of Thrones for a family audience apparently!

There are no doubt similarities between that and the Zelda video games, but whether “family audience” translates into a kiddie TV show which won’t appeal to anyone outside of that demographic is unclear.

The online streaming service are said to be working closely with Nintendo, bit the Japanese game developer’s protectiveness over their properties could lead to them putting an end to the adaptation before it gets off the ground. A writer is currently being looked for however, so things are looking good so far…
