Netflix has become known for producing quality TV shows which they release directly to their online streaming service, but they recently made the leap into producing their own feature films as well.

They’re now beating studios to acquiring the distribution rights to them too, starting with Beasts of No Nation, a powerful film written and directed by Emmy Award winner Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) and starring Idris Elba (Luther) will debut later this year in select theaters in the US and worldwide on Netflix.

“Beasts of No Nation is based on the highly acclaimed novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala, bringing to life the gripping tale of Agu, a child soldier torn from his family to fight in the civil war of an African country. Newcomer Abraham Attah gives a stunning portrayal of Agu, while Elba dominates the screen in the role of Commandant, a warlord who takes in Agu and instructs him in the ways of war,” reads the synopsis.

If you’ve finished binge watching House of Cards over the weekend, then don’t worry, the summer will also be full of opportunities to ignore the sun and stay indoors watching more great original content online.
