The Killing Banner

The Killing faced the axe more than once when it was on cable network AMC, and after being cancelled in 2012 and then miraculously brought back for a third season shortly after, another cancellation in 2013 seemingly sealed its fate once and for all. However, Netflix saved the series for a final run of six episodesĀ in order to give it a satisfying ending for those who have stuck with the show since it launched back in 2011.

Set to debut on August 1st, Netflix have today released the first trailer for the highly anticipated fourth season of The Killing. Based on the preview below Linden (Mireille Enos) and Holder (Joel Kinnaman) will clearly have a lot more to deal with this time around than simply solving another crime.

Season four will pick up right after the events of season three, and it promises to wrap up loose ends and reveals long-buried secrets as detectives Linden and Holder return to investigate both a gruesome mass slaying that exposes a dark family history, and a mysterious disappearance within the ranks of their own Seattle Police Department. While this is billed as an ending for The Killing, could it lead to a fifth season?
