Even if you’re not really one for awards shows, chances are you’ll know Neil Patrick Harris from his lengthy stint as Barney in How I Met Your Mother or his recent (memorable) appearance in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.

However, he actually hosted the Tony Awards in 2012 as well as the Emmys in 2013 and 2009, so he’s no stranger to this realm. The actor has also won four Emmys and took a Tony home a little earlier this year for his role in  the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He’s performed at the Academy Awards too.

In fact, Harris now only needs to host the Grammys to have a clean sweep of having hosted all of the major American awards ceremonies! Getting the Oscars gig is easily the most prestigious in many respects though.

This will mark his first time hosting the ceremony and he follows in the footsteps of Ellen DeGeneres who was well-received earlier this year as well as a number of other familiar names like Billy Crystal.

It’s no easy task to head up this awards ceremony, especially as critics delight in picking apart the host before, during and after the Oscars. Neil Patrick Harris seems like a good choice though, and he Tweeted out a video once the news broke revealing that hosting the Oscars will soon be ticked off his bucket list.
