Nebraska-PosterMaking its debut at Cannes this year to incredibly positive reviews, Alexander Payne’s Nebraska is looking more and more like a strong contender with the Oscar season looming.

Payne’s entire career has been littered with Oscar candidates, and his last two films, The Descendants and Sideways, have both taken home the Best Adapted Screenplay. So it should come as no surprise that Nebraska would have the same level of buzz surrounding it.

The first footage surfaced in the form of a clip ahead of its Cannes debut back in the spring – you can read our review from Cannes here. And with two months to go before it arrives in cinemas, Paramount Vantage has launched the first trailer and poster over on Apple.

After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he’s struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune. Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.

Bruce Dern and Will Forte star as father and son in Payne’s drama, with June Squibb, Bob Odenkirk, and Stacy Keach starring alongside them, and Bob Nelson making his feature debut as a writer.

Nebraska is set to be released in the US a week earlier than anticipated on November 15th, with its UK release date set for 6th December, following an anticipated appearance at the BFI London Film Festival.
