If ever you’ve seen any of Aaron Sorkin’s work – Moneyball, The West Wing, The Social Network, the list goes on – you’ll no doubt agree that he’s one of the best writers working right now.

To date, he’s had three exceptional TV shows (Sports Night, The West Wing, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), all of which have been nothing but genius. Having spent a few years away from television writing for the film industry – and all three films went to the Oscars – he’s back for a brand new series, and it looks like it could be some of his best work yet.

We heard back in September that HBO had picked up Sorkin’s new series, The Newsroom, for a full first season, and now they’ve debuted the first trailer, and it’s everything fans of Sorkin’s will want it to be.

Hence, it’s very much Must Watch viewing material.

“”The Newsroom” is a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.”

The Newsroom (previously titled More As This Story Develops) will premiere on HBO on Sunday, 24th June. No word yet on when/where it’ll be coming to UK television, but here’s to hoping it will be sooner rather than later. As a huge fan of Sorkin’s work, I can’t wait. And this first trailer shows that he’s clearly still at his best.

Note: There’s one small use of explicit language, so you may want to wait until you get home if you’re reading this at work.
