The Muppets will return to primetime this Autumn with a contemporary, documentary-style show on Disney’ ABC. For the first time ever, the series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires.

According to the network, this is a more adult Muppet show, for “kids” of all ages. As bizarre as it might sound on the surface, the show looks like a lot of fun as you can see from the presentation pilot episode below. It was this which actually convinced ABC to move ahead with the series, and it’s easy to see why!

Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (Anger Management) are co-writers and executive producers. Randall Einhorn (Wilfred), Bill Barretta, Debbie McClellan and Kyle Laughlin are also executive producers, so it’s a pretty impressive comedic team. The Muppets is produced by ABC Studios and The Muppets Studio, and this first look touches on much of what fans of the iconic characters love about them.

There’s no word on when and where this will air in the UK, but Netflix were said to be interested in the series before ABC landed it, so there’s a chance it could end up there for international viewers. We’ll just have to wait and see, but this looks set to be a second chance for The Muppets after their last movie.
