Mr.-Peabody-&-Sherman-PosterDreamWorks Animation started out the year with a home run with The Croods, and will have to work harder to turn their latest, Turbo, into a success. But with three films due out next year, kicking off with Mr. Peabody & Sherman, things continue to look good for one of the industry’s leading animation houses.

Based on the titular characters from the 1960s animated series, The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, the Spring ’14 blockbuster sees The Lion King co-director Rob Minkoff return behind the camera for his first animated movie since 2003’s The Haunted Mansion.

And with little more than half a year left on the calendar, DreamWorks and Fox have released the first official teaser poster, via Sky Movies, giving us a little look at the eponymous characters.

Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (Modern Family) voices Mr. Peabody, the world’s smartest person who happens to be a dog. When his “pet” boy Sherman, voiced by Max Charles (The Amazing Spider-Man), uses their time traveling WABAC machine without permission, events in history spiral out of control to disastrous and comical results. It’s up to this most unexpected of father-son teams to somehow put things back on track before the space-time continuum is irreparably destroyed.

Ty Burrell and Max Charles lead the cast as Mr. Peabody and Sherman, respectively, with the hilarious Stephen Colbert lending his voice as Paul Peterson, Mr. Peabody’s nemesis, alongside Ellie Kemper, Burrell’s Modern Family co-star Ariel Winter, Allison Janney, Stephen Tobolowsky, Mel Brooks, Leslie Mann, and Stanley Tucci.

Minkoff (The Lion King, Stuart Little) is directing from a script penned by Craig Wright (Six Feet Under, Lost).

Mr. Peabody & Sherman is set to be released in 3D on 17th February, 2014 here in the UK, with its US release date following soon after on March 7th, which currently sees it opening opposite 300: Rise of an Empire.
