Remember Valentine’s Day? New Year’s Eve? Garry Marshall’s saccharine-sweet features which felt less celebratory and more like being stuck in a lift at the Oscars with everyone.

But he returns with Mother’s Day and that’s all the plot you need to know – heartstrings will be plucked as the maternal emotion sack is swung around our heads once again.

Personally I can’t wait for Marshall-Raimi worlds to collide in Ash Wednesday.

It stars Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Timothy Olyphant, Margo Martindale, Jon Lovitz and Hilary Duff. And that’s not even close to being a full cast list.

Will Garry be able to marshall these intersecting narratives in a more cohesive and satisfying manner than its predecessors? Let’s hope…
