The first and last time David Koepp ventured into comedy territory behind the camera, we came away with Ghost Town. This time around, he’s throwing action into the mix as well for next year’s anticipated Mortdecai, and with Johnny Depp leading an all-star cast, we’re pretty much guaranteed something special.

With less than half a year left on the clock before the action-comedy hits, Lionsgate has launched a great first trailer to give us an idea of the film’s tone.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British MI5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Ewan McGregor and Aubrey Plaza top an amazing ensemble alongside Depp, joined by Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany, Oliver Platt, and Jeff Goldblum.

Koepp is directing from a script written by relative newcomer Eric Aronson, based on the series of books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, the final in the series being finished by Craig Brown more than a decade after the original author’s death.

Mortdecai is due to hit UK cinemas on January 30th, 2015, with its US release set for February 6th.
