Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Daniel Craig, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban have signed on to star in Monuments Men.
The drama, which is loosely based on Robert M. Edsel’s non-fiction book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, will be directed by George Clooney from a script he co-wrote with Grant Heslov.
Monuments Men will tell the story of a special team brought together by the US Government to reclaim precious artwork stolen by the Nazi regime during World War II.
Production is due to start in Europe next Spring. Award winning composer Alexandre Desplat will provide the score.
Craig can currently be seen in Skyfall, while Goodman has a role in Ben Affleck’s upcoming Argo, Murray spearheads Film4’s Hyde Park on Hudson as Franklin D. Roosevelt and Blanchett returns as Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
