monsters university dan scanlonThough the initial sentiment towards prequels, sequels and reboots provokes an immediate rolling of the eyes – followed by a feeling of worriment that this project will not provide the same amount of quality and emotionality that the original had achieved, any such doubt or apprehension was rather quickly dispelled as far as Pixar’s Monsters University was concerned, as this prequel to the phenomenal Monsters Inc. is brilliantly well-crafted and ingeniously comedic. It therefore come as a great honour to sit down with director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae to discuss this triumphant adventure.

As the film prepares for its nationwide release on July 12th, Scanlon and Rae discuss their own apprehensions at entering into this project, though telling us of their delight to be involved in such a worthy franchise. They also tell us which film they’d most like to do a prequel for that hasn’t got one already in place, while discussing the importance of bearing such a noteworthy voice cast – this time adding Dame Helen Mirren to the already established characters of Mike and Sulley, voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman, respectively. In the meantime, check out our review of the film here.
