The first trailer for Disney Animation’s Moana generated a small amount of backlash due to its decision to put the spotlight on the character being played by Dwayne Johnson (who stars as the once powerful demi-god named Maui) rather than the titular character, a new Disney princess who will be voiced by 14 year old actress Auli’i Cravalho, a native of Oahu, Hawaii.

However, this international trailer for the highly anticipated release puts a greater focus on Moana, albeit as a youngster. It’s here we learn of her connection to the ocean, though there are other great new snippets of footage included which point to this being a really fun film.

“In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island,” reads the synopsis. “During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”

Written by Jared Bush, Pamela Ribon, and Taika Waititi, and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, Moana has all the makings of a great Disney animated movie (minus the Pixar label) like Frozen and Big Hero 6 before it. The movie is set to be released in November.
