It was recently revealed that Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins has landed the lead role in Fox’s reboot of the 24 franchise, and the show has now found its female lead in the form of Miranda Otto. No stranger to this type of storytelling, she recently starred in season 5 of Homeland. Her feature credits include The Homesman and War of the Worlds.

Otto is playing Rebecca Ingram, the blazing smart former head of CTU. Now married to Senator John Donovan (who has not yet been cast), she struggles with second thoughts about having left the counter-terrorism agency. How she’ll factor into the series is unclear.

Written by 24 veterans Manny Coto and Evan Katz, and directed by Stephen Hopkins (who helmed the original 24 pilot way back in 2001), 24: Legacy revolves around a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back – compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. It all sounds very 24 so far then, but will it work without Bauer?

That remains to be seen for the time being, but Otto received rave reviews for her performance in Homeland, so it’s fair to say that this is a great addition to 24: Legacy.

It was also recently revealed that while there will be mentions of former CTU members from the original 24 series on 24: Legacy, and some of them will be featured in photos, there are no plans for any of the 24 cast members to have an ongoing presence on the new series.
