After five years off the air, Punk’d is back, and it sounds like it might be a bit different this time around. The original show was co-created by Ashton Kutcher, and as you no doubt remember, saw him setting up all kinds of pranks on all kinds of famous faces – Justin Timberlake, Seth Green, Usher, Travis Barker, Matthew Perry, Simon Cowell, Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, Dwayne Johnson, Hayden Panettiere; the list goes on.

For the new and ninth season, things are changing, and Kutcher’s passing on the torch to a new set of celebrities to set up the practical jokes. Each episode will be hosted by someone new, with the line-up already announced as including Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber (whose punks should include Taylor Swift), Kellan Lutz, Punk’d’s own Dax Shepard, and my personal favourite so far, Bam Margera. Expect Margera’s episode to pretty much be immense, because it will no doubt look a lot like Jackass, and no doubt involve pranking a lot of his Jackass co-stars.

“Get ready for bigger and better laughs and surprises, when MTV’s groundbreaking hit series ‘Punk’d’ returns for an all-new season on Monday, March 19. The series, which became a pop culture phenomenon, is back, revealing the vulnerable and fun-loving side ofHollywood’s A-list celebrities as only MTV can. This season, Ashton Kutcher is passing the torch to a different celebrity host each week, including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Kellan Lutz, Bam Margera and “Punk’d” alum Dax Shepard, among many others, who will punk their unsuspecting famous friends. Be on the lookout for more of your favorite stars, who will serve as celebrity hosts this season as well, to be revealed soon.”

With thanks to Deadline for the tip-off, MTV revealed more details about the new season last night in their New Year’s Eve program, including a sneak peek of Miley Cyrus and Kelly Osborne punking Khloe Kardashian. The new season is also set to change from the past eight by taking viewers behind the scenes to see how the pranks are set up.

I’m not sure when this will be airing in the UK, but it sounds like it has potential. Getting the celebrity hosts involved in the pranks could be fun, and the Margera episode should be especially great. Here’s a teaser at the Miley Cyrus episode, in which Khloe Kardashian thinks the take-out delivery guy gets himself stuck in the zipper of his trousers. Ouch.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
