Christopher McQuarrrie wasn’t lying when he said that some old faces would be returning for the latest installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, with a familiar face confirmed to be back for the new mission – Michelle Monaghan.

News via Variety has confirmed that Monaghan is part of Mission: Impossible 6, returning to the franchise after appearances in the third and fourth installments, though her role in Ghost Protocol was no more than a token cameo. In Mission III, which was directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Monaghan played Julia Meade and married Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in the film.

Since Mission, Monaghan has appeared in a variety of different projects, including the first series of True Detective, Patriot’s Day opposite Mark Wahlberg, and most recently, starred with Jamie Foxx in Sleepless.

The sixth installment has been filming in Paris in recent months with McQuarrie returning behind the camera after 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which grossed over $682.7million across the globe. Indeed, the sixth installment marks the first time a director has returned to direct a second film in the franchise.

Tom Cruise, as ever, stars as Ethan Hunt with Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin reprising their roles from Rogue Nation, with only Jeremy Renner not returning due to his commitments to Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, which are currently filming back-to-back. Never fear though, as the film has replaced Hawkeye with Superman – Justice League star Henry Cavill has joined the film alongside fellow new recruits Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther).

Mission: Impossible 6 opens in cinemas on July 27th, 2018.
