We’ve heard from plenty of actresses who are interested in starring in Paul Feig’s female led reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise, but it finally appears as if the cast of the movie is officially coming together.

Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy looks set to reunite with the director as she has entered early talks to play the movie’s lead (that’s about as specific as they get). Issues could arise with her scheduling however, as she has a number of other big screen commitments and a leading role in popular sitcom Mike & Molly.

Both sides are scrambling to sort that out, with the plan apparently to shoot Ghostbusters in June.

The site adds that the reboot will be an origin story for the new characters, and in no way a sequel or “hand off” to the original two movies. There is said to still be a chance Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson could make cameo appearances however, but how they would fit into things is a hard one to figure out.

Though Jennifer Lawrence and Rebel Wilson have expressed interest, neither are viewed as contenders right now. Emma Stone however is available, but Sony are currently focused on landing McCarthy as the lead.

Two other actresses being eyed for roles in Ghostbusters are Jillian Bell (Workaholics) and Saturday Night Live comedienne Cecily Strong. They’re both expected to meet the filmmaker soon for unknown roles.
