The key to any decent comedy is a solid script and a fine cast. With Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston seething his teeth out in exasperation while co-star James Franco’s hedonistic tech-billionaire makes the moves on his daughter, there’ll be plenty to enjoy in John Hamburg’s Why Him?

We spoken to Franco and Cranston here, and to the director here, and now we’re taking time with three essential members of the Why Him? cast. Megan Mullally is well known for her role in Will & Grace, and here she plays the obliging wife to Cranston’s conservative patriarch. She is thrown into the macho sparring match along with the couple’s daughter and object of the billionaire’s affections, Stephanie (played by Zoey Deutch).

They are joined by the Key player in Comedy Central’s Key & Peele series Keegan-Michael Key who joins the joins as Gustav. It’s a hilarious interview, and below you can see how our man James Kleinmann got on when he sat down with them all.

Why Him Movie Synopsis?

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry—and Ned’s panic level—escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
