Guardians of the Galaxy has been a hit with critics, moviegoers and at the box office, and many now believe that its success will show Marvel and a number of other studios that movies featuring lesser known comic book characters can work providing that they have the right team behind the scenes.

According to a new report, that’s exactly what’s happening as Kevin Feige and company are said to be moving ahead with a movie featuring the fairly obscure group known as The Inhumans.

Just as they turned to a member of their writing programme (Nicole Perlman) to develop Guardians of the Galaxy before James Gunn came on board to take those ideas and mould it into his vision, Marvel have chosen Joe Robert Cole to help them develop The Inhumans for them before finding a filmmaker to develop it.

For those of you unfamiliar with the characters, The Inhumans are an ancient race created as a result of Kree experimentation on humans using the mysterious Terrigen Mist. A movie featuring the super powered beings would further allow Marvel to explore their cosmic universe after Guardians of the Galaxy.

Led by Black Bolt (who can destroy a city block with just a whisper), the Royal Family have been compared to Game of Thrones as there are plenty of betrayals and interesting character interactions. The main characters include the likes of Medusa, Crystal and Gorgon, all of whom have a varied set of powers.

Vin Diesel recently sparked speculation of a movie starring The Inhumans after a Facebook post which said only, “I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I’m Inhuman… Haha.”
