After finding success together on the well-received Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg’s next collaboration sounds very interesting indeed as they’re set to reteam for The Six Billion Dollar Man.

The Battleship and Hancock helmer will direct and Wahlberg is attached to star. In case you’re wondering, we haven’t made a type; this version will indeed be titled The Six BILLION Dollar Man, whereas the TV series from the 1970s starring Lee Majors was called The Six MILLION Dollar Man.

This big screen version will once again focus on former astronaut Steve Austin (this time played by Wahlberg) who, after a horrific crash of an experimental plane, is saved by doctors when he is fitted with bionic replacements — both legs, his right arm and left eye. With super-human power, he becomes a force to be reckoned with for the government as a secret agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

The studio are likely hoping that The Six Billion Dollar Man will attract older viewers and a new generation of fans, and you have to imagine that they’re thinking of franchise potential with a possible Bionic Woman spinoff creating what could essentially be a shared Cinematic Universe (they are all the rage these days).

A 2016 release date is currently planned, and shooting is expected to begin at some point next year.
