Now that Marvel and Sony have found their Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), they’re looking to fill out the rest of the cast of their 2017 reboot. Today, Variety brings word that Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) is in talks to play Aunt May in the movie, a role previously filled by Rosemary Harris and Sally Fields.

Tomei is quite a bit younger than both of those actresses, but with the Spider-Man set to be only 15 or 16, it makes sense that Marvel has chosen an Aunt May who fits with that (bear in mind that Tomei is in fact 50).

There’s obviously no word on what kind of role May will play in Spider-Man just yet, but the character isn’t expected to make a cameo appearance in Captain America: Civil War alongside Holland next year.

Variety also reveals that Marvel and Sony are prioritising putting a cast together right now as they want to lock them in with multi-picture deals. This reboot is expected to be the first part of a trilogy, with each instalment set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Spider-Man popping up elsewhere along the way.

They’re also currently looking for a writer to work alongside director Jon Watts, so it shouldn’t be too long until we start to hear even more next about the villain and supporting cast of Marvel’s Spider-Man!
