Elijah-Wood-in-ManiacElijah Wood will be making his return to the horror genre this spring in the anticipated Maniac.

Directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2), the film is a remake of the original 1980 slasher of the same name, and has been getting very positive reviews on the festival circuit since its Cannes debut last year.

We’ve recently been treated to the opening six minutes of the film and two new clips this month. And now we’ve got another, VERY unsuitable for work clip to share, to give you a good idea of what Maniac like.

“Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt.

Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.”

Starring alongside Wood is Nora Arnezeder, who recently starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in Safe House, and who I’m hoping will be a rising star in Hollywood in the years to come.

Khalfoun is behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by past collaborators Alexandre Aja and Grégory Lavesseur (Switchblade Romance), with whom he co-wrote the script on P2, and newcomer C.A. Rosenberg.

Maniac will be released in the UK on 15th March, which is a date to make a note of for all fans of the genre. As of yet, no US release date has been set, but IFC Midnight have the rights for the States, so that should be changing soon. For now, here’s the new clip to set the tone.

And one final reminder: This is HIGHLY unsuitable for work.

Nudity, bad language, violence, and more follow.
