Man-of-Steel-PosterMan of Steel is, with good reason, my most anticipated original* film of the year.

Zack Snyder’s summer blockbuster holds more potential than any other film in 2013, with Warner Bros. thought to be looking at its reception with an eye to kick-start a DC Cinematic Universe in the years to come. And with Marvel’s equivalent doing so well in recent years, there’s a lot to get excited about if that comes to pass.

After getting the first amazing teaser trailers last summer, we were treated to the brilliant first full-length trailer before the end of the year. And after some static on the film’s official site in recent days, the countdown has reached zero, and the much-anticipated new trailer has hit. And it is immense.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Henry Cavill takes the lead here as Clark Kent / Superman. And he’s joined by an awesome cast, led by Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Richard Schiff, and Laurence Fishburne.

Snyder is directing from a script by David S. Goyer (the Batman trilogy), who co-wrote the story with Christopher Nolan.

Man of Steel will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on June 14th in the US and UK, which cannot come fast enough. This is going to be epic. Here’s the new trailer to prove it. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Personally, my spine is tingling.

*This ‘original’ qualification is only necessary because my anticipation is equalled by Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.
