Amber-Heard-and-Danny-Trejo-in-Machete-KillsRobert Rodriguez’ Machete Kills is all but guaranteed to be one of the best action films of the year.

The 2010 original film, Machete, took north of $40m. at the box office, and pretty much instantly became something of a cult classic. When you partner Rodriguez with Danny Trejo, you expect nothing less.

Partnering up once more for the second instalment in the proposed trilogy, we’ve seen a handful of things from the film so far. A first official look at Trejo with Amber Heard. A first look at Alexa Vega. And our first character poster for Lady Gaga’s La Chameleón.

And now Open Road have officially announced that they’ll be releasing the film in the US in September this year.

“In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.”

Starring alongside Trejo, Heard, Vega, and Lady Gaga is a brilliant cast, headed up by Sofía Vergara, Charle Sheen, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and Mel Gibson.

Ever so slightly an awesome cast.

Rodriguez is directing from a script penned by Kyle Ward, based on a story by the director and Marcel Rodriguez, his brother.

Machete Kills will be hitting the US on 13th September. No word yet on a UK release date, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will be landing at roughly the same time.

“Open Road Films will release MACHETE KILLS – directed by Robert Rodriguez (Machete, Sin City, Spy Kids franchise) and starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror and Mel Gibson – on September 13, 2013.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay by Kyle Ward and based on a story by Marcel Rodriguez and Robert Rodríguez, MACHETE KILLS is the sequel to the 2010 hit film MACHETE – which has built a devoted legion of fans since its release – and is the second film in a trilogy. The film is produced by Robert Rodriguez, along with Aaron Kaufman and Iliana Nikolic through their QuickDraw Productions banner, as well as Sergei Bespalov of Aldamisa Films, Alexander Rodnyansky of AR Films, and Rick Schwartz of Overnight Films.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
