This Friday, Will Smith’s latest movie After Earth hits UK cinemas and it’s one we’re very much looking forward to as it seems to be splitting opinions across the board. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the movie tells the story 1000 years in the future where Earth has been abandoned and left to evolve without interruption from man. The planet is full of dangerous creatures and after an accident which leaves them stranded, real life father and son Will Smith (Cypher Raige) and Jaden Smith (Kitai Raige) have to find a way to get off the planet before they’re consumed by it.

You may remember a couple of months ago, we were lucky enough to go to Cancun for a Sony junket which would give unprecedented access to all of Sony’s movies coming out this summer. That event was called (rather aptly) the Summer of Sony and this interview is the first from that batch of which you’ll see many over the coming months.

We got to chat with Director M. Night Shyamalan about his latest film, how how writing process is formed and where it is in that process that the twists that he’s so famous for appear. We also find out about his work with Producer and co-writer Will Smith, working with Jada Pinkett Smith and the other Producers and whether or not there were any concerns with casting Jaden as Will’s on-screen co-star and whether their real life would help or hinder the film-making process.

After Earth is released in UK cinemas this Friday 7th June.
