The film has been earning critics’ praise for the past few months – you can read our review here – with Daniel Day-Lewis’ performance noted in particular, winning him the Best Actor award in the dramatic category at the Golden Globes at the weekend.

With its UK release now on the horizon at the end of this month, Fox have released two great new TV spots to get us all in the mood on our shores.

“Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.”

Day-Lewis takes the lead as the eponymous president, Abraham Lincoln, and is joined by an all-star cast, headed up by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, John Hawkes, Jared Harris, Jackie Earle Haley, James Spader, Lee Pace, David Oyelowo, and David Straithairn.

Spielberg is directing from a script by the Oscar-nominated Tony Kushner (Munich), who adapts the original book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Lincoln is still on wide release in the US, with its numbers still keeping it in the Top 10 at the box office after all these weeks. Its UK release date is set for 25th January, and looks to be a must-see film this year, especially ahead of next month’s Oscars.
