A little earlier this year, Hugh Jackman took to Twitter to ask fans what they want to see in the next Wolverine movie, and unsurprisingly, Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth was one of the most popular suggestions. Since then, the two actors shared an interesting exchange on Twitter which appeared to indicate that the Ray Donovan star will be reprising that role.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, the actor downplayed that speculation, but seems optimistic about the possibility of once again playing Wolverine’s greatest foe.

“I don’t know if I’m invited. But I heard that the storyline is Old Man Logan. And when I heard that, I thought, ‘Well, you know there’s Old Man Logan, there could be Old Man Sabretooth.'”

While the character didn’t factor into the Old Man Logan comic book, but there’s no way that story is going to be faithfully adapted anyway, especially as it featured characters like Hawkeye, the Red Skull, and Venom, none of whom Fox actually own the rights to.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a terrible movie, but the chemistry between Jackman and Schreiber redeemed it to at least some extent. Pitting Wolverine and Sabretooth one more time would be a fitting way to bring both of their stories to an end of the big screen.
