Chris Hemworth has carved out quite the career for himself since rising to fame with Thor, and his younger brother is wasting no time in following in his footsteps. After a starring role in The Hunger Games series and a memorable turn in The Expendables 2, Liam Hemsworth is being eyed for a role in Independence Day 2.

Roland Emmerich is returning to direct Independence Day 2/ID Forever, and this is a good sign that work on the movie is progressing. Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan has also been rumoured to star in the sequel.

There had been talk of Independence Day 2 being split into two movies, but the plan is to now make just a single film which will be released in 2016. Carter Blanchard rewrote the most recent draft of the script which has initially been penned by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, with James Vanderbilt also contributing.

Unfortunately, as has been previously reported, Will Smith is still NOT expected to reprise the role which played a big part in making him a household name back in 1996. He’ll be busy with Suicide Squad anyway.

Independence Day has developed a passionate fanbase over the years, but whether or not a sequel will be embraced nearly 20 years since the release of the first remains to be seen. Are you looking forward to it?
