Standing on the shoulders of giants, LEGO emphasis its 80 year history of creative brick play in announcing their entry into the Minecraft video-game space with LEGO Worlds.

This is a video-game version of the popular brick building hobby, but without the need to buy each and every brick. This opens the door to generated worlds made entirely of bricks that can then be sculpted as children do in Minecraft.

What’s more the game is available today via STEAM’s Early Access program. This means that although not finished a functioning version can be tested and more features will be added as time goes by. Starting in this way on PC is not unlike the humble beginnings of Minecraft.

Can LEGO topple the ubiquitous building platform in the minds of children. Time will tell.
