Anchorman: The Legend Continues (a.k.a. Anchorman 2) is set to hit theatres in October 2013, and with the original gaining significant cult status in the years since its release, the odds are good that the sequel is going to be a huge favourite at the box office next year.
Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate are all reprising their roles from the original.
The Wrap are now reporting that Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, SNL) is in talks to star in the sequel, and would be playing the love interest for Brick (Carell).
The Oscar-nominated Wiig of course has a wealth of experience in comedy, making a big name for herself in Saturday Night Live since she first joined the cast back in 2005. Bridesmaids saw her elevate to even further heights last year, earning her her Oscar nomination for co-writing the script.
If all goes well with the talks, then I think she’d be the perfect first addition to the cast. And a love interest for Brick sounds like an awesome way to take the sequel in a new direction.
Adam McKay and Will Ferrell are currently still penning the script, with McKay returning behind the camera to direct when the film rolls into production.
The brilliant first teaser trailer and poster landed back in May, confirming that the team would be getting back together, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues is expected to hit theatres in October 2013. Here’s to hoping that it will be Wiig joining the roster when it does. More as we get it.
