2016 has by no means been a bad year for film, but a lot of releases we were really excited about this time last year proved to be massively disappointing. It’s inevitable that we’ll get a few let downs in 2017 as well, but with any luck, Kong: Skull Island won’t be among them!

The movie definitely looks pretty amazing anyway, something which is evident from the new concept art below. As you can see, it shows the iconic monster walking through fire as he takes aim at the soldiers who have invaded his ancient island home. The latest trailer made it clear that their little excursion doesn’t end well for them due to Kong being so formidable!

Not convinced? Well, that’s napalm he’s shrugging off due to Skull Island’s unique setting.

“The script I first read took place in 1917,” Jordan Vogt-Robert reveals, confirming that it once took place in a period more familiar to Kong fans. “But when I started talking to the Legendary [Entertainment] guys, I was thinking, ‘What weird King Kong movie would I want to see?’ So I pitched them the Vietnam War connection, literally thinking they were gonna laugh me out of the room. And to Legendary’s credit, they said, ‘Cool. Let’s figure it out.’ The aesthetics of that time mixed with King Kong makes for an incredible genre mash-up.”

That honestly sounds a lot more exciting and original, and you can bet your life that we wouldn’t have got a scene like the one below with a Kong: Skull Island movie set in 1917!
