Joss Whedon hasn’t had an easy time with studios in the past. Just look at how Firefly was handled by Fox or his struggles to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen! He’s found a home with Marvel Studios however, and after helming the second highest grossing movie of all-time, Whedon can do anything he chooses.

Next up of course is Avengers: Age of Ultron, and in a recent interview, the writer and director was asked how he felt about Idris Elba recently letting slip some plot details about the highly anticipated sequel. “Um, should he receive an email from me, there might be an attitude of scold. [When] you have a cast of 19,000 people, inevitably, once every month, you pick up [a story] and you’re like, “Awww.””

Talk then turned to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his thoughts on the Phase Three slate which was recently made official by Kevin Feige. “You know, it is a little daunting, and you sort of go, [mock-whiny] “What about my movie? I haven’t even been born and you already like my younger siblings better?” But at the same time it’s exhilarating. It’s really fun to see where Kevin’s taking it and to see the workings of that mind. I think it was a very canny and very human move, I really like the slate.”

The site unfortunately didn’t ask whether or not Whedon will return to helm the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, but when they quizzed him on how much inside knowledge of Marvel’s plans he has and where characters like the Hulk might turn up next, he revealed that it all ultimately comes down to Kevin Feige.

“[These] plans become mutable. “These guys have these rights, oh, now we have these rights. Oh, this guy is now not available.” Again, you’re dealing with so many moving parts and so many factors, you just can’t really predict much.” That makes sense, but here’s hoping he’s not done in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…
