There were rumours about this happening last year, but it has now been confirmed that The Punisher is getting his own series on Netflix. After being introduced in season two of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal will obviously be reprising the role of violent vigilante Frank Castle.

It seems Marvel and the online streaming service are already well into the development process anyway as they’ve hired a showrunner in the form of writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot. He worked on Hannibal, so expect The Punisher’s world to be dark and twisted! Details on when exactly the show will air have yet to be revealed by Netflix.

Everything You Need to Know About The Punisher Before His Netflix Spin-off

The Punisher marks the sixth Marvel series ordered by them, with the others obviously being Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. Luke Cage will air this September, Iron Fist is currently shooting, and The Defenders starts production this year.

The last few episodes of Daredevil season two perfectly set the stage for Frank to star in his own series, and while this news was to be expected, it’s great to have it finally confirmed.

To go with the announcement is a new teaser image promising the return of Frank Castle:
