When it was first revealed that Universal have plans to create a shared universe featuring their most iconic movie monsters, many people scoffed at their apparent attempt to imitate the success found by Marvel Studios. Well, yet another impressive casting addition has been made to this world as Johnny Depp is set to take on the role of The Invisible Man.

It’s already been confirmed that Tom Cruise is going to star in The Mummy, while it was rumoured last year that Angelina Jolie may end up playing The Bride of Frankenstein.

Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are producing this and the rest of these monster movies, the first of which will be The Mummy on June 9th, next year. Ed Solomon (Now You See Me) is writing The Invisible Man’s script, but the director is currently, well, invisible. The studio will no doubt start looking for a filmmaker to take the helm in the next few months.

It’s going to be very interesting to see how Depp approaches the character. He recently starred in Black Mass and will next be seen in Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The Invisible Man will likely then follow…
