Kenneth Branagh’s big screen Jack Ryan reboot starring Chris Pine didn’t go down too well with fans a couple of years back, so now an attempt is being made to bring the iconic Tom Clancy creation to the small screen instead. Amazon actually confirmed today that they’re moving forward with a new take picking up with the CIA analyst at the start of his career.

The Office and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi star John Krasinski will play the character in a show featuring, “an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time.” Set to run for ten episodes, it “follows Ryan as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.” Sounds good!

Lost’s Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland created the show and will serve as executive producers alongside the likes of Michael Bay and Brad Fuller. It’s not set to be a direct adaptation of any of the Jack Ryan books and is instead based on an original idea.

“We’re excited to add the Jack Ryan global franchise to our robust originals pipeline,” Roy Price, Head of Amazon Studios, said via statement. “Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content.”

Paramount TV and Skydance are the ones behind Jack Ryan, so it’s in good hands!
