Last week, Ben Affleck rocked the internet to its very core when he shared a brief video of Deathstroke on the set of Justice League. It was later reported that the iconic DC Comics villain will actually make his presence felt in Ben Affleck’s upcoming solo Batman movie.

Now, Geoff Johns (who is co-writing the Dark Knight’s next movie alongside Affleck) has confirmed that Magic Mike and Sabotage star Joe Manganiello will play the character.

He’s been rumoured to be up for the role for a long time now, and fans started theorising last week that he may have been cast as Deathstroke as he was spotted in London around the same time that test footage was shot. Johns refused to comment on whether or not the villain will show up in Justice League or if he’ll be the only bad guy in the Batman movie.

In the comics, Deathstroke is a mercenary who has squared off with Batman and the Teen Titans on multiple occasions. He’s master combatant and has previously appeared in live-action in Arrow (in those, Slade Wilson was played by The Hobbit actor Manu Bennett).

The currently untitled Batman movie doesn’t have a title or release date just yet, but it’s thought that it will be released either on October 5th, 2018 or November 1st, 2019.
