Sir Ridley Scott’s next project is The Martian, a movie which is based on an e-book by Andy Weir about an astronaut stranded on Mars who must figure out how to stay alive long enough to get back home.

Matt Damon is already attached to star, and now Jessica Chastain is said to be in early talks for the lead female role, as is Kristen Wiig. There are no details on who either of them will be playing as of yet.

Chastain has starred in a number of movies including Lawless and Zero Dark Thirty. She will next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Wiig meanwhile is known for comedic roles in the likes of Bridesmaids and Knocked Up, but was equally impressive in Ben Stiller’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

The Martian will be the next project for Scott, and he will produce alongside Simon Kinberg. What’s particularly exciting about this project is that it was penned by The Cabin in the Woods scribe Drew Goddard.

The Martian is set to be released on November 25th, next year. It’s believed that Scott will follow this movie with Prometheus 2 in 2016, but that has yet to be confirmed. Are you looking forward to The Martian?
