Things are about to get awkward on the set of Justice League! The cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice faced tough questions about the critical response to the movie when they were put in the awkward position of talking to British journalists after the bad reviews had come out in America, but Jeremy Irons hasn’t held back in a new interview.

Asked about the response to the Zack Snyder helmed release, he said: “Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed. It was very muddled.” Batman v Superman’s box office haul did actually mean quite a lot, because while it was far from a flop, Warner Bros. expected it to earn upwards of $1 billion in total.

Comments like these are unlikely to go down well with Snyder or Warner Bros., especially as Irons is set to reprise the role of Alfred Pennyworth in Justice League. However, the actor did go on to promise that things won’t be so “muddled” there. “I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear. I’m tied into The Batman at the minute [the next instalment, Justice League Part One, is due next year], which is nice because it’s a bit of income. Not that I need a bit of income but it’s nice to keep ticking over.”

Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns recently had their involvement with Justice League increased, so it’s clear the studio is going all out to ensure that this superhero team-up is met with a more enthusiastic response from both fans and critics alike. We’ll find out next November…
