Javier Bardem (Vicky Christina Barcelona) has been offered a major role in the upcoming 23rd James Bond film, set to be directed by Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road).

Details about the character are being kept under wraps, but it’s rumoured to be the lead villain.

Bardem, if he accepts, will star opposite Daniel Craig (Dream House) and Judi Dench (Nine), who are set to reprise their roles as James Bond and M, respectively.

In addition, MGM are negotiating to make an overall deal for worldwide theatrical and home entertainment distribution, giving the studio instant cash flow following its recent financial difficulties.

The as-yet-untitled film is set to be released on November 9, 2012.

Bardem can currently be seen in Biutiful, for which he received an Academy Award nominated for his engaging performance.
