Jamie Foxx didn’t have much luck back a couple of years ago when he took on the role of Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he’s now lining up another blockbuster which will see him star opposite Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Taron Egerton in Robin Hood: Origins.

The movie is being released by Lionsgate, with director Otto Bathurst at the helm. Egerton was cast in the title role last year, while he’ll also be joined by Eve Hewson as Maid Marian.

This version of Little John is described as, “a battle hardened but war weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero.” The reboot itself has been labelled as a darker and gritty take on the classic character, with some initially comparing to The Dark Knight. That…makes sense?

Bathurst is best known for Peaky Blinders, while the script was written by Joby Harold, the scribe responsible for Guy Ritchie’s recently delayed Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur.

Origins picks up with Robin Hood as he returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands. It certainly sounds like an interesting enough interpretation…
